New Discovery x M2 Malletier

New Crush x New Discovery x New itBag x New talented Girls
Today on the blog I present you M2MALLETIER, a new brand I fell in love with. Two talented & gifted girls who redifined the concept of luxury Handbags with only one Detail : The Handgrip ...
The Barcelona-based Colombian designers of M2MALLETIER, Melissa Losada and Marcela Velez, met while studying at Parsons The New School for Design. By combining minimalistic and surreal elements with medieval inspiration, the young designers create simple, yet elegant bags. Along with traditional black, ivory and tan, this season’s collection includes deep red and vibrant orange hues. But what really distinguishes these luxury handbags from others is “the needle,” a thin metal handle inspired by medieval medical instruments. This sharp linear handle transforms the classic geometric purse into a more daring piece.
This is their very first collection and was already claimed in last Fashion Week. It is inspired in medieval medical instruments, spanish architecture, more preciselly, Ricardo Bofill, patron of Arts Marie-Laure de Noailles and interior designer Jean Michel Frank.
Minimalism and functionality are the Key...

interview of the Girls :

How did the story of M2Malletier begin?
Marcela and I met at Parsons School of Design in New York back in 2007 and always wanted to create something together. However, we both worked and interned in various companies within the industry and it was only in 2011 when we started developing the project. At that time I was living in Paris and Marcela was still in NYC. I moved to London after a year in Paris and started a masters at Marangoni in which I developed a great part of the project. Finally we both moved to Barcelona to start the brand.

What are your individual roles in the business?
Marcela is the business mind of the Brand. I take care of PR, design and production. We help each other a lot.

How do you juggle your time between Paris and Barcelona?
We live most of the time in Barcelona but go to Paris a lot for inspiration and to see our friends. We spend at least 1 or 2 weekends an month in Paris.

Does your personal style reflect the minimal, conceptual direction of your bags?
I wouldn’t say my style reflects this all the time, but my home certainly does

What can we expect from your next FW13 collection?
Bold, bright colours and crocodile.

What is coming up this year?
We are launching our first fashion film. We are working with 2 very talented art directors and film producers based in Paris. It will be released at the end of March.

Advice for burgeoning designers?

To always be curious and study. The more references you have the best you can create.
