Isabel Marant’s Western Fall– Not a label known for following trends, the fall 2012 collection from Isabel Marant let its carefree spirit fly with the designer’s latest presentation shown during Paris Fashion Week. Inspired by southwestern style and cowgirls, autumn embraced feminine ruffles, floral detailing, casual denim and leather. Fringe and metallic accents brought an authentic touch to the well-tread theme. A muted color palette with pops of scarlet, electric blue and pink grounded the new season with a modern take on old west style. The secret to Marant’s success is being able to create covetable staples that don’t need any sort of trickle-down effect to find them hanging up in a shop or your wardrobe. They have an immediacy and right-now relevance. Find yourself reaching for a cowboy shirt next season and signing yourself up for the most fashionable barn dance in town. In red and black and mauve with embroidered yolks they came worn with brightly coloured jeans. They then transformed into flirty little dress versions with little belts slung on the hip. Bomber jackets or more rocky versions were studded or fringed and then came high-necked lace blouses that were very much from the prairie - or even your own wardrobe pre-bohemian era, if you look hard enough.
Nothing especially new from Marant but you can just tell that’s not really going to be a problem.
